Blair write-in votes posted online
HOLLIDAYSBURG — Blair County has posted write-in votes on its website, after finishing a review of those votes cast in the Nov. 5 election. Results are now available for review at www.blairco.org.
The change to a paper-trail voting system, used for the first time in Blair County on Nov. 5, led to an estimated 3,000 handwritten write-in votes, according to Commissioner Terry Tomassetti, who chairs the elections board.
When using the county’s e-Slate voting system, voters interested in casting write-in votes had to turn a dial to highlight letters and spell out the name of their preferred candidate.
With the county’s new voting system, voters used a pen to write in candidate names on their paper ballots.
The task of reviewing the write-in votes started Friday, but after almost five hours of review, Tomassetti said a decision was made to recess and reconvene Wednesday to finish the task.
Tie votes for any elected office will be broken through the casting of lots, scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 22 in the elections office at the courthouse.
