UOC performs surgeries at Tyrone
Although no longer performing joint replacement surgery at Tyrone Hospital, University Orthopedics Center will continue to perform other orthopedic surgeries in the specialties of sports medicine surgery, hand surgery and foot and ankle surgery at Tyrone Hospital.
Additionally, UOC’s Dr. Bradley Barter and physician assistant Aaron Thompson will continue to see patients at the outpatient clinic in Tyrone Hospital.
“We remain committed to providing top quality orthopedic care at Tyrone Hospital for patients who prefer that location,” said Dr. Christopher McClellan, director of joint replacement surgery at UOC.
For those patients needing joint replacements, UOC will continue to perform this surgery in other regional hospitals including Mt. Nittany Medical Center, Penn Highlands Dubois, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntington, Conemaugh Nason Medical Center in Roaring Spring and UPMC Altoona. UOC also performs outpatient joint replacement surgery at the Advanced Center for Surgery in Altoona.
At the end of September, Tyrone Hospital made the decision to discontinue its joint replacement services and focus its efforts in other areas to ensure its ability to meet the health care needs of the community. For the past 10 years, UOC maintained a close professional relationship with Tyrone Hospital including performing a significant volume of surgeries and staffing an outpatient orthopedic clinic at the hospital.
“We take great pride in our partnership with Tyrone Hospital, helping to build that center into one of the busiest in Central PA. Our service to this community remains a priority for UOC,” said McClellan.
