Stolen bike leads to charges
TYRONE — A Tyrone man has been charged over a stolen BMX bicycle.
Jared A. Gummo, 21, of Tyrone, is accused by Tyrone police of stealing a Kink BMX bike in late June from a yard on East 14th Street.
According to charges filed in Tyrone District Court, the bike was taken sometime between the evening of June 19 and early June 20, and after a search by the bike’s owner, his friends and Tyrone police, the bike was found inside an apartment on the 1300 block of Washington Avenue.
Police said the apartment is rented by Gummo’s girlfriend.
The girlfriend told police Gummo had dropped off the Kink bike and a Huffy bicycle and told her he was borrowing them from a friend. She added that Gummo did this often so she didn’t think much about it.
Gummo was charged by summons with misdemeanor counts of theft and receiving stolen property and is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller on Nov. 9 for a preliminary hearing.
Gummo has been charged with four previous crimes this year, including one in which he is accused of forcing his way into an apartment on June 23 where he allegedly choked and threatened to kill the mother of his child.
