Cambria leads vet benefit claims

EBENSBURG — The Cambria County Veteran Services Office said it filed more veteran benefits claims through the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veteran Affairs from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019, than any other county office in the state.

This is the third year in a row that Cambria County tops the list of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties and six veteran’s homes, filing a total of 883 claims, which represents nearly 12.2 percent of all claims filed through the state.

The claims filed represent just over $10.4 million in compensation and pension dollars awarded to veterans and their families through the county, last year. These latest numbers also represent a 67.2 percent increase in claims filed by Cambria County from the previous year’s reporting period.

Cambria County’s Veteran Services Office said the numbers are a result of a continued effort to inform current and previous service members of benefits that may be available to them, and the incorporation of electronic filing now available.
