Labor Day parade planned for Aug.31

UPDATED to reflect the date of the parade is Saturday, Aug. 321.

The Blair Bedford Central Labor Council will sponsor a Labor Day Parade on Saturday, Aug. 31, in downtown Altoona.

The parade will step off at 10 a.m. beginning at Ninth Street and Green Avenue and proceed up 11th Avenue toward 15th Street, where it will disband.

Participating in this year’s parade will be marching units from unions representing the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Communications Workers of America, Carpenters, Plumbers and Pipefitters, Electricians, Iron Workers and United Steel Workers as well as the Johnstown Labor Council, Pam’s Charg­ers, Altoona Area High School Marching Band, Altoona Fire Department, Altoona Highway and water departments, Logan Township workers, local politicians, local law enforcement, Norfolk Southern workers, UPMC workers, Blair County Democrats and Democratic Wo­men.

The parade will feature giveaways as well as candy for children.
