Child found injured in alley
Police: Toddler was reported missing; injuries were criminal, not accidental
An 18-month-old was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after the child was found injured in an Altoona alley, according to Altoona police.
Blair County Assistant District Attorney Pete Weeks said Monday the child’s injuries were criminal in nature and not accidental.
Altoona police were dispatched about 3:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a missing child who was ultimately found in an alley near the 800 block of Lexington Avenue, the apparent victim of an assault, Weeks confirmed.
Weeks said Blair County Children, Youth & Families is working with Altoona police and the Blair County District Attorney’s Office in the investigation, which he said was ongoing.
Altoona Police Chief Janice Freehling said Monday that Detective Sgt. Terry Merritts was investigating the incident but said no further information was being released at this time.
