City man held in assault

Dormevil allegedly choked girlfriend twice during fight

From Mirror staff reports

A city man is behind bars after police said he choked his girlfriend during a fight.

Jacob Dormevil Jr., 25, was arrested at the couple’s apartment on the 500 block of Sixth Avenue on Saturday morning after Altoona police were dispatched for a domestic dispute and found his girlfriend outside claiming Dormevil had grabbed her by the throat twice.

According to charges filed by Altoona police, Dormevil allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the neck while she was holding their 1-month-old son after the two argued about where he had parked her car about 10 a.m. Saturday. Dormevil allegedly “banged her head off the wall several times” while choking his girlfriend and told her he would kill her, Altoona police Patrolman David Paskowski wrote in the charges.

When the woman fled after her mother showed up at the apartment, Dormevil allegedly followed her across Sixth Avenue where he again grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against a fence.

Police said Dormevil, who was in the apartment when officers arrived, yelled at police, was uncooperative and refused to answer any questions or give police basic information, such as his name and birth date.

Dormevil was arraigned Saturday afternoon on charges that include felony strangulation and endangering the welfare of a child.

Bail was set at $20,000 cash and Dormevil remains in Blair County Prison with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 19.
