City man charged with strangulation

Alleged incident leads to assault, endangerment charges

From Mirror staff reports

A city man faces charges after police say he strangled and then punched a woman.

Matthew A. Holsinger, 35, was jailed Saturday after his arrest by Altoona police on charges that include felony strangulation and child endangerment stemming from an alleged incident about 7:30 p.m., according to Altoona police.

Police contend Holsinger allegedly assaulted the woman after she asked him to hand over a baby because she had seen him with a beer in his hand earlier.

Holsinger allegedly refused and pushed her before he put the baby on a bed and choked the woman for about five seconds.

Holsinger then threw the woman on the bed, next to the baby, and punched her, police allege.

When she tried to call 911, Holsinger grabbed her phone and threw it against a closet door, breaking it.

Holsinger is also charged with felony intimidation of a witness and misdemeanor simple assault.

Bail was set at 10 percent of $15,000 and Holsinger posted bail Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 22 at Central Court.
