Spring Games set for Sunday

LORETTO — Saint Francis University will host Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s Central Spring Sectional on Sunday.

The Spring Games will host about 359 athletes and 149 coaches from 16 counties in central Pennsylvania. Athletes will compete in basketball, track and field, swimming and tennis.

The Central Spring Sectional will kick off with opening ceremonies held in the DeGol Arena from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Competitions will begin at 9:45 a.m. and run until 4:15 p.m.

Competitions will take place at Saint Francis University with the exception of athletics and tennis, which will be held in Ebensburg.

Athletics competitions will take place at Central Cambria High School, and tennis competitions will be held at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.

This event is a joint effort between the University and SOPA, and is managed by students under the guidance of staff advisers. More than 400 Saint Francis University students will be volunteering during the event, many of them members of various Red Flash NCAA Division I teams, and the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Departments.

This is the 31st consecutive year that the Spring Sectional has been hosted by the university.
