Police: Man finds stranger sleeping on kitchen floor
Charges show Smith found surrounded by torn up maxi pads
An Altoona resident woke up Thursday morning to find a stranger sleeping on his kitchen floor surrounded by torn up maxi pads, according to police.
Brian R. Smith, 60, was arrested by Altoona police after a man on the 300 block of Fourth Street came downstairs about 6:15 a.m. and called 911 when he found Smith sleeping on his kitchen floor.
According to the charges, when Altoona Patrolman Jarod Pisarchik arrived at the home, Smith was unconscious on the floor and surrounded by torn up maxi pads.
Police said a box of 90 pads was destroyed as well as a box of facial tissues.
A box of Krave cereal was out of place, and it appeared as if someone had eaten some of it, the homeowner pointed out to police. The resident of the home told police he went to bed at
11 p.m. and had locked all his doors and windows. Smith was on the kitchen floor when he got up Thursday morning and one of the home’s doors was wide open.
When Smith was roused by police, he was confused and didn’t know his whereabouts. Police said Smith said he lived at 105 First St.
After Smith was taken to UPMC Altoona by AMED ambulance, he allegedly told police he had used methamphetamine within the last day or two but was unable to explain how or why he entered the house.
Smith was charged with felony burglary and criminal trespass, along with a summary charge of criminal mischief and lodged in Blair County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail set by Magisterial District Judge Ben Jones.
A preliminary hearing is slated for Wednesday at Central Court.
