Habitat for Humanity to host dinner, auction

There will be a luau dinner and silent and live auctions Saturday at the Bedford American Legion at 3271 Business 220 to support the Bedford Habitat for Humanity.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6. The silent auction will be at 7 and the live auction at 8.

Tickets are $25 per person. Those interested can call 310-2467 or can buy them at the Bedford American Legion, Coldwell Banker SKS Realty or at Peppercorn.

The dinner will be a Hawaiian luau buffet and include ham with pineapple, marinated boneless chicken breasts, rice pilaf, Hawaiian glazed carrots, slaw, rolls and butter as well as coconut, pineapple and chocolate cake, tropical punch, tea and coffee. There will also be a cash bar.

All proceeds go to the Bedford Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that recently partnered with the Hale family of six from Everett.

There are four children ranging from 17 months to 14 years old. One of the children, 10-year-old Landon, has been disabled since birth and requires total assistance with daily living activities. The family currently lives in a two-bedroom, one-bathroom house that is not handicapped accessible, according to a Bedford Habitat for Humanity press release.

The father, Jason, works at LaSalle’s Garage in Everett. Crystal, the mother, works at Skills of Central PA in Bedford but also spends a lot of time taking care of the family.

“Having a home where the family will have more room and having a fully disabled accessible home is an opportunity that we are truly grateful for. Even though both of us are working, it is still hard to get ahead,” Crystal said in arelease.

Bedford Habitat for Humanity plans to break ground for a home this spring or early summer on the lot Habitat owns in Everett.

Completion will depend on the number of volunteers and money and donations. Clark Contractors Inc. of Bedford is assisting the organization.
