Mishler to transmit to hearing impaired

System donated to theater

The Mishler Theatre has a looping system that magnetically transmits sound to hearing aids and cochlear implants, turning hearing aids into wireless loudspeakers that cut out extraneous noise.

Dr. Karen Lemme of Lemme Audiology Associates, Altoona, donated a looping system, equipment and the installation of the system at the historic Mishler Theater. The system was installed Feb. 18 and will allow individuals with hearing devices to hear and understand more clearly during performances at the theater.

Mishler Theatre executive director Kate Shaffer said she was thrilled with the donation.

“Our audience has quite a number of aging people and this system will be a tremendous benefit to them,” Shaffer said.

“We are so grateful for Karen to donate this equipment. We are thrilled.”

Hearing-challenged patrons seated in the lower level at the Mishler can push the button on their hearing instrument to access the manual T-coil and begin enjoying the sounds of the production, concert or symphony.

“Our goal at Lemme Audiology Associates is to provide the highest level of hearing health care in our community,” Lemme said. “We are delighted to provide greater access to Mishler Theatre programs for those who may not have been able to attend in the past due to hearing difficulties. In addition to offering unsurpassed service and follow-up attention to our patients, Lemme Audiology Associates genuinely cares about the folks in our community dealing with hearing-related issues.”
