A Jackson Township resident has put in her election bid for prothonotary, noting deep family connections to Cambria County.

Lisa Crynock, of Gillen Lane, Mineral Point, announced she is seeking the Republican nomination for Cambria County prothonotary.

“I feel our current county leaders are content with operating at status quo. Unless change occurs before the 2020 census, Cambria County is in danger of being reduced to a fifth-class county,” Crynock said. “I am committed to modernizing county government and services.”

“It’s time for new leadership, new ideas and innovation in county government,” she added. “My goal is to improve efficiency, decrease inconvenience and increase transparency in the Office of the Prothonotary, as well as all county offices.”

If elected into office, the 44-year-old candidate said she would digitize records to provide online access to and electronic submission of documents and payments as a way to become more citizen-friendly.

She referred to Fayette County, another fourth-class county, that established online payments for delinquent taxes, criminal court collections and probation payments for restitution and costs.

Crynock works as a respiratory therapist at a home health care company and an area hospital.

The candidate is a 1996 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with an associate degree in respiratory therapy.

Crynock is also a graduate of Ferndale Area High School.

She teaches Sunday school at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren and serves as a PTO member for Jackson Elementary School.

Although born in Pittsburgh, Crynock said she moved to the area with her family at age 3 in 1977, prior to the Johnstown Flood.

She said one of her great-grandfathers served as a county commissioner in the early 1800s, other ancestors served in the Union Army during the Civil War and another served in the American Revolution and later assisted in laying out Johnstown.

Crynock is married to Robert, and together they have one daughter.
