Firefighters injured battling house fire
Two volunteer firefighters are recovering at home after being injured and taken to a hospital to be checked out Monday night.
The Alexandria Fire Company reported on its Facebook page that the firefighters were injured in an incident at a garage and house fire on the 9000 block of Old Route 22 in Porter Township. The first fire call came in about
8:30 p.m. Monday. Fire in the garage quickly spread into the home’s attic.
Crews from Alexandria, Petersburg, Smithfield, Huntingdon Regional, Mill Creek, Shavers Creek, and Williamsburg fought in frigid temperatures to move water and extinguish the fire, the Facebook post said. Firefighters were on scene until about midnight.
Juniata Valley, Huntingdon and Twin Creeks ambulance associations also responded.
McDonald’s, Sheetz, Wendy’s, Burger King and Martin’s General Store provided hot food and drinks to first responders.
