Blair planners review projects

Blair County Planning Commission members on Thursday gave favorable reviews to four projects:

– JLC Holdings LLC plans to construct a 2,508-square foot office building and an accompanying 3,200-square-foot warehouse building and parking lot at 1313 Blair St. in Hollidaysburg.

– Roof Works USA plans to construct a new light industrial facility on Lot 6 in the Lee Business Park in Allegheny Township. The current proposal is to construct a 4,800-square-foot facility containing warehouse and office space. A 3,600-square-foot building expansion area is also included in the plan.

– Garvey Manor Nursing Home is proposing to develop Marion Heights in Allegheny and Frankstown townships. The project involves the construction of a 6,911-square-foot one-story personal care addition and 28 single family “cottage” homes.

– AMED is proposing to construct a new 8,220-square-foot emergency medical facility and parking lot on Shand Avenue in Logan Township.

Meanwhile, a dispute between the planning commission and Altoona Water Authority has been resolved, The commission will continue to hold its regular monthly meetings at the Chestnut Avenue building in 2019.

The commission had met at the water authority building for the past three years, but in July received a letter saying they will no longer be allowed to use the site.

The authority claimed there was a problem with parking — that meeting attendees were parking in an area clearly designated for authority customers.

“A Blair County commissioner talked to a higher up at the authority and the topic came up. Commissioner Bruce Erb was able to get us back in,” said Planning Director David McFarland.

McFarland also said the commission is seeking a new solicitor to replace Michael Routch, who has served as solicitor for more than 10 years. Routch’s new position at a local firm will not permit him to serve as solicitor.
