Man accused of hitting boy with broom

Tyrone resident charged with assault on child

From Mirror staff reports

A Tyrone man is accused of hitting an 11-year-old on the back with a broom handle.

Charles F. Bell, 41, of 402 Washington Ave., Apt. 3, is scheduled to appear in Tyrone District Court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing on a charge of simple assault stemming from the alleged incident on Nov. 7 in Tyrone.

According to charges filed by Tyrone police, Bell was arguing with the boy at his home when Bell took the handle of a broom and smacked the boy in the back with it.

Police said a witness corroborated the story, and the boy had swelling and redness on his back consistent with a broom handle.

The boy was struck on the lower right side of his back, above the kidney, police added.

The boy was placed in the custody of a relative, and Bell was arraigned Wednesday morning by Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller, who set bail at 10 percent of $15,000.
