City man to face trial for attempted burglary

An Altoona man who police say tried to kick in the door of a woman’s home just hours after he was served with a protection-from-abuse order will face trial.

Shawn M. Alberter, 46, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges that include felony attempted burglary and attempted trespass on Wednesday at Central Court.

Alberter was arrested Friday night on the 800 block of Seventh Avenue after Altoona police arrived at the home and allegedly found Alberter on the back porch, yelling and screaming.

It was about 9:30 p.m. when officers arrived and according to the charges, Altoona police had been at the home at 6 p.m. to serve Alberter with a protection-from-abuse order in a domestic dispute.

Police said Alberter was intoxicated and had a switchblade knife on him when he was taken into custody.

The woman told police she was in her apartment and was told by a friend that Alberter was returning. When he got there, Alberter allegedly tried to open a window and then kick in the back door. Alberter allegedly yelled and threatened, “I’m going to get you and kill you; this isn’t over.”

Alberter was remanded to Blair County Prison following his court appearance Wednesday. His bail is $15,000 cash, and he is due to appear in Blair County Court for formal arraignment in December.
