County to host last public meeting on budget

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The last of three public focused on Blair County’s 2019 draft budget is set for 7 p.m. today at the Blair County Convention Center.

Commissioners and other county personnel have hosted two evening meetings so far this month to review review the developing budget and to explain how money will be allocated for spending in 2019.

The plan to hold three evening meetings — in the northern, southern and central parts of the the county — developed in late 2017, after commissioners introduced a 2018 draft spending plan with a 25 percent increase in real estate taxes. Commissioners subseqently followed through with the adoption of that budget plan despite suggestions and requests for reconsideration by some residents and property owners.

While the 2018 budget reflects no increase in real estate taxes, it remains subject to change through Nov. 13 when it’s scheduled for introduction during a weekly commissioners meeting.

Thereafter, the county’s proposed budget will be put on public review.

Commissioners are also holding their regular weekly meeting at 10 a.m. today in Room 2B at the courthouse.

Starting at $2.99/week.
