Man faces charges in Pleasantville robbery

Police allege Ritchey held up store at gunpoint

State police at Bedford have an arrest warrant charging two first-degree felonies and six misdemeanors against a man in connection with the armed robbery of a Pleasantville convenience store.

State police obtained the warrant for Brandon Lee Ritchey, 28, no fixed address, charging him with felony robbery with immediate threat of serious injury and conspiracy to robbery with immediate threat of serious injury in connection with a July 2 armed robbery at the Alum Bank Pit Stop. He also is charged with misdemeanor simple assault, terroristic threats, theft, receiving stolen property, endangering the welfare of children and criminal mischief.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Ritchey and a co-defendant “Allen,” apparently Keeshawn Laroy Allen, who was charged Monday with the same offenses occurring on the same date, were recorded on surveillance footage running around the corner of the Alum Bank Pit Stop about 3 a.m. July 2 before entering the store, allegedly armed with black handguns and confronting two victims. Both victims were able to flee the store.

Ritchey allegedly took the cash register and fled the store after Allen exited. Troopers reportedly found a trail of coins and currency to the parking area of storage units where gravel marks indicated a car had recently left the area.

During the investigation, troopers learned that Allen might have been involved and his girlfriend, Macy Jo Gates, 21, of New Enterprise, might have been the driver.

In a July 27 interview, Gates reportedly admitted to picking up Ritchey at a Roaring Spring apartment complex before driving to Altoona to pick up Allen with her 10-month-old son in the car. The men wanted to go to New York but didn’t have enough money.

Gates allegedly told police that Ritchey and Allen decided they needed masks and other items to commit a robbery so they went to the Altoona Walmart and stuffed items in Gates’ diaper bag, including two BB guns, before leaving the store without paying, according to the affidavit. Gates allegedly dropped Ritchey and Allen off at the park in New Enterprise before going home and packing her bags. She then picked up Ritchey and Allen, while her son was in the middle of the back seat.

They drove to Pleasantville and waited until there weren’t other vehicles around.

Gates allegedly said when Ritchey and Allen returned after the robbery, they had Gates drive away while Allen threw the masks, clothes and gloves they had stolen from Walmart out of a window. The cash register was thrown off a bridge near the Osterburg ballfield. They then got on I-99 to head to New York, although the affidavit doesn’t say how far they got.

Keeshawn Laroy Allen, 22, was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Tonya M. Osman, who set bail at $300,000 cash. Allen is being held in the Bedford County Jail with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 8.

Gates is scheduled to be arraigned at 2 p.m. Thursday by Osman on felony robbery and conspiracy and two counts of terroristic threats and misdemeanor simple assault, theft, receiving stolen property, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief.
