City woman charged with simple assault

An Altoona woman faces charges after a domestic dispute.

It started with an argument about 5 a.m. Monday, according to Altoona police. Police allege Lisa M. Charles, 40, 220 E. Beech Court, jumped on her husband’s back and tried to drag him down as he was descending the stairs, causing him to stumble down the stairs and into the living room where the pair then fell into a Christmas tree.

Charles’ husband then managed to get away and retreat to the bathroom, but police said Charles followed and punched him in the face as he was sitting on the toilet. When her husband fell into the shower, Charles allegedly started spitting on his face and chest.

Police said the husband tried to leave the bathroom but the assault continued until he punched a wall and Charles backed out of the bathroom and allowed him to leave.

Responding officers said the area around Charles’ husband’s right eye was red and swollen when they arrived about 5:30 a.m., and his chest was red and showed multiple scratches all over it.

Charles was arrested and arraigned Monday on a charge of simple assault and released on an unsecured $20,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is slated for Nov. 29.
