Central Cambria selects acting superintendent

EBENSBURG — Curriculum Director Jason Moore was appointed the acting superintendent of the Central Cambria School District on Monday evening.

School board members voted unanimously to appoint Moore to the position with little discussion before their decision.

However, it was announced that a number of executive sessions — not open to the public — were held prior to the meeting to discuss district personnel. It was not made clear if those discussions included the acting superintendent position.

Moore will fill a void left by the retirement of former superintendent Vincent DiLeo.

DiLeo took a “temporary leave” from the district for “personal” reasons in mid-September.

School board members and district solicitor Brendan Moran would not elaborate on those reasons at the time.

Later that month, board members voted at a special meeting to accept DiLeo’s retirement, explaining he had requested the departure in a letter submitted Sept. 21.

DiLeo did not explain the circumstances that led to his decision to retire, according to a previous Mirror report.

On Monday, board members and school administrators congratulated Moore for his appointment.

Moore said the new position came with little notice.

“I didn’t know until today,” he said.

Moore said he’s been with the Central Cambria district for four years and also serves as a member of Greater Johnstown School Board.

Moore also confirmed that he intends to pursue a permanent superintendent position within the Central Cambria district.

Moore said he has the proper certifications to fill the position and is now pursuing a doctorate at an area university.

“I’m thankful for having the opportunity,” he said of the interim position, applauding other district officials. “It’s the best administrative team in Pennsylvania.”

Moore’s salary as acting superintendent is to be set at a later date, school board members said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
