Area veteran programs receiving grant funds

Veterans affairs offices in Bedford and Cambria counties are among 15 statewide receiving grants from the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Trust Fund.

The VTF is administered by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

Bedford County’s Office of Veterans Affairs will receive $8,200 for veterans’ outreach services, while Cambria County Office of Veterans Affairs will get $15,000 for veteran treatment court services.

In addition, two Johnstown-based nonprofits also received grants. The Veteran Community Initiatives will get $40,000 for a veterans’ court program, while Vietnam Veterans of America will receive $30,000 for emergency assistance to veterans, the governor’s office said.

Statewide, $150,000 went to 15 county veterans offices and $500,000 to 17 charitable or veteran service organizations.

The money comes from $3 donations by Pennsylvania residents when applying for or renewing their driver’s license or vehicle registration, sale of Honoring Our Veterans license plates and private donations.

Starting at $2.99/week.
