New hires and promotions
Karen Zanella has been hired as a benefit services representative at the State College branch of Swift Kennedy & Associates, an insurance brokerage firm specializing in group employee benefits and senior insurance plans.
Zanella, who previously worked as a management assistant at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, will assist clients with claims issues, benefit questions, applications, online enrollments and terminations.
Jeannie Hamilton of Martinsburg has been named as financial services coordinator at Homewood at Martinsburg.
Hamilton brings more than 29 years’ experience in the health care industry. She has served as admissions director at a nursing facility and has held various other positions including positions in public relations and care management.
Laura Burke, Blair County commissioner, recently received a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from Villanova University.
Burke, who began her first term as a commissioner in January 2020, and serves as the vice chair of the board, is also president of the board of directors of Penn-Mont Academy.
Sara Rutledge, Mount Aloysius College professor of education, was recently published in the research journal for the National Association for Professional Development Schools.
Rutledge’s article, titled “An Investigation of Mentor Teachers’ and Student Teacher Candidates’ Perceptions of Co-Teaching during the COVID-19 Pandemic,” was co-authored by Mariha Shields and Sue Rieg.
In the article, Rutledge and her co-authors looked at the case studies of nine participants to learn more about the types of instructional activities used by mentor teachers and student teacher candidates to teach while schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
