Maggie Ivock has been promoted by Conemaugh Health System to regional director of physician recruitment.

She is responsible for recruiting physicians at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center, Conemaugh Miners Medical Center and Conemaugh Nason Medical Center in Roaring Spring.

Marcus Edwards of Hollidaysburg has joined Altoona Blair County Development Corp. as Small Business Administration program administrator and economic development lender. He will be leading the First Frontier 504 Program.

Edwards is a graduate of Altoona Area High School and from Saint Francis University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with an actuarial concentration. He honed his business lending skills with Reliance Bank.

Amy Reighard, a registered nurse, has successfully renewed her gastroenterology nursing certification through the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology Nursing.

Reighard has been employed at Blair Gastroenterology Associates for 22 years, most recently serving as administrator of the endoscopy center.

Awards and honors

Stef Davis Kempton, assistant professor of communications at Penn State Altoona, received a Best in Competition award from the annual Broadcast Educators Association Faculty Festival of Media Arts. Kempton was awarded in the Faculty Television Feature News category for her video about the Good Day Cafe in State College, a coffee shop that employs people with mental health disabilities.

Rita Trofino, associate dean, School of Health Sciences & Education, Nursing Department chair and professor at Saint Francis University, was recently awarded the Distinguished Colleague Award from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Nursing Schools Association Inc., which helps baccalaureate and higher degree nursing education programs in Pennsylvania plan and implement programs for growth, development and advancement.

Miscellaneous

John Whitlock, Mount Aloysius College professor of biology has been published in a Feb. 18 article posted by Smithsonian Magazine for his work on reclassifying a dinosaur fossil discovered in 1883. Whitlock’s work, co-authored by Jeffrey Wilson Mantilla, originally appeared in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology in 2019.

Whitlock also is a paleontologist and a research associate at Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
