Blair Chamber office closed

The Blair County Chamber Office is closed to the public until further notice to comply with Gov. Tom Wolf’s new mitigation efforts for COVID-19.

“Our staff is working remotely and members will have access to our staff to assist with any issues or concerns,” said Chamber President/CEO Joe Hurd. “Our committee meetings will continue on Zoom. We will continue to send relevant information to our members as well as updating our website and social media platforms.”

Meanwhile the chamber has canceled the Dec.10 Breakfast Club meeting

PAB teaming up with Santa

Professionals Auto Body and Santa will team up with the Altoona and Logan Township police departments and the Blair County Sheriff’s Office to help as many families as possible this holiday season.

Professionals is looking to raise funds to help buy new clothing, school items, toys and other essential items for families in need.

To donate or learn more about the program, call Jamie at 814-696-8466 or stop by the Professionals’ Duncansville location. Professionals will be accepting new toys at the Duncansville location until Dec. 14.

Giant hosting food drive

The Giant Company is hosting a food drive to further stock the shelves of community hunger relief organizations.

Customers can find a bin at each Giant and Martin’s store to drop off non-perishable items now through this Friday, Dec. 3. All items will be donated to local food pantries.

Customers may donate items from home or purchase the products in the store. Some of the most requested items by food banks include peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, whole grain pasta, oatmeal and canned soups.

UGI natural gas costs drop

UGI Utilities Inc. announced its purchased gas cost rates will decrease beginning today, reducing the average residential heating customer’s bill by 1.1 percent. As a result, the average bill will decrease from $79.37 per month to $78.47 per month.

UGI Utilities Inc. is based in Denver, Pa., and serves approximately 670,000 natural gas customers in 45 counties in Pennsylvania.

Weis to support local nonprofits

Weis Markets is taking part in National Day of Giving today, Tuesday, Dec. 1. Each Weis location will match customer donations with a $500 donation.

Customers are invited to donate to a local nonprofit, chosen by the associates at each store location, by rounding up their order or purchasing a $1, $3, $5 or $10 voucher at checkout.
