New hires and promotions

Patti Bickley of Altoona has joined the staff of The Lung Disease Center of Central Pennsylvania and the Altoona Lung Specialists.

Bickley is a certified registered nurse practitioner with years of experience in critical care nursing and cardiology. She previously worked at UPMC Altoona.

She will be providing LDC and ALS patients professional and personal service when

calling in with acute problems. She also will see patients when physicians are on vacation and will have access to the center’s physicians for more complex issues.

Dr. Elizabeth Dunmore has been named chief medical officer of Conemaugh Health System. Dunmore was formerly the vice president of medical affairs at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Cen­ter, Johnstown.

In that position, Dunmore served as a liaison to the medical staff and health system administration and worked closely with clinical chairs in the development of departmental strategies for growth and quality.

Prior to her role at Conemaugh Memorial, Dunmore spent 14 years as an active member of the medical staff at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center in Roaring Spring.

Awards and honors

Samuel Tanner is the recipient of the 2020 David H. Russell Award for Distinguished Research in the Teaching of English, presented by the National Council of Teachers of English.

Tanner, assistant professor of literacy education at Penn State Altoona, won this award for his recent book “Whiteness, Pedagogy, and Youth in America: Critical Whiteness Studies in the Classroom,” published by Routledge.

Physician Assistant Vincent Capone and Dr. Zane Gates of Altoona will receive the Physician and Physician Assistant Team award from the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants.

They will be honored Oct. 21 to 24 at the annual PSPA conference.

LaVonne Falbo from LaVintage Decor has been named president-elect of the Altoona Area Business Community.

Others elected are Don Mast from Ruff House Marketing, vice president and social media coordinator; Laurence Rissler from LR Roofing Systems, treasurer; and Sarah La Palme from Eye Luv Decor secretary.

A co-authored paper by Tulay Girard, professor of marketing at Penn State Altoona, received the Best Paper Award in Services Marketing from the 2020 Atlantic Marketing Association Virtual Conference held Oct. 2.

The paper, “Importance-Performance Gap Analysis of the University Brand Equity Dimension,” was presented by Girard and Musa Pinar, professor of marketing at Valparaiso University. The extended abstract was published in the Conference Proceedings.
