Lincoln Motor Court places second in national contest

The Lincoln Motor Court, a unique Bedford County lodging site in Manns Choice, took second place in USA Today’s Top 10 list of Best Roadside Motels.

Through nationwide, online voting, the Lincoln Motor Court was the only Pennsylvania-owned business in the annual competition. The Coachman Hotel in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., was the top-vote getter among readers, according to the nationwide newspaper’s website.

Local owners by Bob and Debbie Altizer expressed gratitude for all the patrons and friends who voted for them during the competition and left notes of encouragement on their social media page, Debbie Altizer said.

“Actually, it’s very hard to believe that we came in second in the whole country for being who we are — a tiny mom and pop establishment. We’ve worked very hard, had lots of help from family and friends to keep it going for the past 37 years,” she said. “It’s amazing.”

Rounding out the top 5 vote-getters were the Sunset Motel in Brevard, N.C., at No. 3; the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Ariz., at No. 4; and the Roadrunner Lodge in Tucumcari, N.M., at No. 5.

In sixth through 10th place in popular voting were: The Vagabond Hotel, Miami; Blue Swallow Motel, Tucumcari, N.M.; Hotel Palms, Atlantic Beach, Fla.; The Astro Motel, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and The Sandman, also in Santa Rosa, Calif.
