J&O Fireplaces recognized

J&O Fireplaces of Duncansville was featured in the March/April edition of Patio and Hearth Products Report, a trade publication for owners and managers of specialty casual furniture stores, retailers and dealers of patio, hearth, barbecue/grill, outdoor-kitchen and outdoor-living products.

“It was quite an honor, there are about 2,500 dealers across the country,” said owner Joe Panaro.

Starting in 1976 as a small wood stove dealer, Panaro and his family have created one of the largest distribution centers of fireplaces, stoves and hearth products in the mid-Atlantic. Now with three showrooms with 46 burning displays plus 26 additional units, the Duncansville location has a hundreds of units as well as venting systems, locally made mantels and custom stone and marble work.

Peoples increases rates

Customers of Peoples Natural Gas are paying more for their gas.

Effective Oct. 1, the quarterly adjusted cost recovery rate increased from $2.42 per thousand cubic feet to $3.28 per mcf.

With the increase, the average residential customer who uses 86,000 cubic feet per year, or 7.2 mcf per month, will see a monthly bill increase from $67 to $74.

The reason for the increase is due to market prices being up. The commodity gas cost is a straight dollar-for-dollar pass through from Peoples to the customers, said Carol Scanlon, manager rates and regulation.

Peoples serves about 31,200 customers in Blair County.
