Sheetz breaks ground on Columbus area stores
Altoona-based Sheetz Inc. is expanding into the Columbus, Ohio, area.
Sheetz recently broke ground on its first two areas in Columbus — Obetz and Delaware. These are the first of more than a dozen Sheetz locations planned to open between April 2021 and December 2021 in Columbus.
Beginning in 2022, Sheetz plans to open a dozen new stores annually in Columbus through 2025.
“We are thrilled to officially break ground and bring the ultimate one-stop-shop to the residents of Columbus,” Travis Sheetz, president and COO of Sheetz, said in a statement. “Anchored by the values my Uncle Bob instilled when he founded Sheetz in 1952, we look forward to being a great employer, providing total customer focus, and being a good neighbor that is actively involved in every community we serve.”
Committed to supporting the local communities each store serves, Sheetz plans to make a positive impact on the residents of Columbus and the surrounding areas through its Made-to-Share food donation program, long-standing partnership with Special Olympics and the Sheetz for the Kidz holiday donation campaign for children in need.
Each store location will employ about 30 individuals, the majority of which are planned to be full time.
Sheetz currently operates 43 store locations in Ohio and 608 stores in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
Skilken Gold, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is the exclusive real estate developer for Sheetz in central Ohio.
