General Cable building available

Property owner hopes to rent space or sell site

Werstil Companies is seeking to fill the former General Cable building, 3101 Pleasant Valley Blvd., with tenants.

Werstil Companies, a Duncansville-based full service landscape management and property maintenance company is working to fill the property now known as Pleasant View Center and owned by Energy Center Associates LLC, which purchased the property for $1 million, said Greg Werstil, Werstil Companies’ owner.

“We are looking for tenants, or we would sell the property to someone who would make it productive once again,” Werstil said.

The nearly 200,000-square-foot building, constructed in 1958, sits on a 13.5-acre site.

In December 2014, the Highland Heights, Kentucky-based General Cable announced plans to reduce employment at the plant, which employed about 210 at the time, to between 30 and 50 workers sometime in 2015.

The company — which left Altoona in 2017 — had decided to relocate the majority of its services to Mexico.

Operating out of the former Sylvania plant, the Altoona operation, formerly known as Carol Cable, had been a part of the local community for about 27 years.

Hertz and Penske Truck Rental are present tenants at the building, Werstil said.
