Meadows reopening today

The Meadows Original Frozen Custard at the Meadows Intersection has reopened.

The Meadows had closed in early January to complete a flooring project.

WARREN, Mich.

Furniture firm eyes options

Warren, Mich.-based Art Van Furniture is exploring Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to a report by Crains Detroit, a business publication.

A spokesperson from Art Van released a statement saying it is “actively exploring options … to ensure serving guests and its communities.”

The company has been in the Detroit-area for more than 60 years and has stores throughout Northwest Ohio.

In November 2017, Wolf Furniture and Pittsburgh-based Levin Furniture were acquired by Art Van Furniture.

Tree fruit school set

Penn State Extension will be holding a Commercial Tree Fruit School for orchardists on Feb. 25 at Slicks Ivy Stone Restaurant in Osterburg.

This in-depth program will feature Penn State Extension specialists Rob Crassweller on “Identifying and Avoiding Herbicide Injury and the Uses of Burndown Herbicides”; Kari Peter on “Thinking You’ve Done Everything Right: Why Diseases (Like Apple Scab) Still Happen”; Greg Krawczyk on “Psylla, Borers and Scale — Old but Still Important Culprits”; Jayson Harper on “Managing Risk: Understanding Your Options in Fruit Production”; Long Heon “Updates on the Precision Agriculture Program: Sensor-based Irrigation and Intelligent Spraying”; and Jim Harvey on “Worker Protection Standards: Respirator Fit and New Test Kits, and Updates on the AEZ and SDS.”

The school will run from 8:15 a.m. to

3:30 p.m., and pesticide credits will be awarded at the end of the meeting.

Eye celebration planned

Mountain View Eye Associates, 1418 11th Ave. will have a celebration from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday to mark the year of the eyeball — 2020 (20/20).

The event will feature a DJ playing eyeball music — songs such as “Eye of the Tiger” and “I Only Have Eyes for You.”

There will be a magician and fun for kids, refreshments and prizes.

The eyeball will drop at 8:20:20 p.m.
