Football season big for Airbnb
The State College Airbnb host community welcomed more than 10,000 guest arrivals and earned about $2.2 million in supplemental income during Penn State home football weekends, helping the borough to significantly expand lodging capacity and income for residents.
This includes a projected 520 guest arrivals and $65,500 in supplemental income for the Senior Day weekend game versus Rutgers.
This year’s White Out game against Michigan was the biggest weekend for Airbnb throughout the season — with approximately 2,600 guest arrivals. This eclipsed last year’s White Out against Ohio State on Sept. 28, during which State College welcomed about 2,100 Airbnb guests.
Airbnb now collects and remits local taxes on behalf of hosts in Centre County.
