Blair reviews glass repair plans
Blue Knob Auto looks to construct facility
Blair County Planning Commission members gave a favorable review to plans for Blue Knob Auto to build a glass repair facility.
Plans call for construction of a 2,500-square-foot facility to be located on an existing gravel lot in the Blue Knob Auto site off Herr Lane.
In addition to the proposed building, a gravel parking lot, landscaping and stormwater management facilities are proposed.
Proposed parking at the site will be within a 10-space gravel parking lot which includes a single paved Americans with Disabilities Act accessible space. Since the proposed glass facility will not be open to the public and will only be used by employees and for storage of vehicles to be repaired, the parking lot should be acceptable as proposed, said Jamie L. Klink, community planner.
Access to the site will be through the existing alley off of Herr Lane, a 24-foot-wide parking lot aisle as well as an area to access three proposed garage bays in the facility.
It appears that the site as proposed should provide adequate access to the facility as well as adequate vehicle maneuverability within the site, Klink said.
The proposed landscaping plan includes a rain garden, shrubbery along the southern edge of the parking lot and a 6-foot high privacy fence along the northern property line.
The developer should ensure that the proposed landscaping complies with Allegheny Township’s landscaping requirements, however, based upon the proposed landscaping, it appears that the shrubbery and privacy fence should help to shield the site from adjacent properties, Klink said.
