Hazardous waste collection set

The Intermunicipal Relations Committee will host the annual household hazardous waste collection from noon to 5 p.m. July 12 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 13 at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The charge is $15 per car trunk-load with an additional charge of 50 cents per pound for all paints. Latex and oil paint will be accepted and recycled for 50 cents per pound. Residents throughout Blair County are encouraged to participate and bring their household hazardous waste to the collection. Material from businesses will not be collected without a pre-registration appointment.

Small businesses are invited to register for the event by June 28. Businesses that are interested in registering should send a copy of the inventory that includes material name and manufacturer, if known, container size, number of containers, type of waste and contact info to the IRC at kpope@ircenvironment.org.

Safety Day conference set

The Energy Association of Pennsylvania is participating in the Pennsylvania One Call System’s Safety Day Conference on Tuesday at the Blair County Convention Center.

The free program, open to the public from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., brings together damage prevention, underground utility and excavation professionals from all over the region for a day of education and exhibits.

There will be numerous educational sessions throughout the day promoting the protection of critical underground infrastructures. Demonstrations and other presentations will be offered concurrent to the educational sessions.

The Energy Association, on behalf of its statewide electric and natural gas member companies, will be featuring a safety display at this event. The EAP’s display will focus on the precautions that should be taken when operating near utility facilities.
