Student receives $100,000 merit scholarship to attend University of Notre Dame
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Maria Murphy has been selected as a recipient of a University of Notre Dame merit scholarship as part of the Notre Dame Scholars’ Program Class of 2024.
The scholarship recognizes exceptional students who have demonstrated their commitment to scholarship, service and leadership and who exemplify the values of one of Notre Dame’s 25 undergraduate merit scholarship awards.
Maria received the $100,000 Trustey Family merit scholarship, which is awarded to students with an academic intent in science or engineering.
Maria is the daughter of Jim and Rita Murphy of Hollidays-burg.
She is a 2019 graduate of Hollidays-burg Area Senior High School, where she was class valedictorian. She joined the Brethren Volunteer Service after graduation and is currently working in Austin,Texas, assisting in the Bernardo Kohler Center, a nonprofit organization devoted to providing affordable legal services in the area of immigration.
She will begin her studies at Notre Dame beginning this fall.
