Hollidaysburg library sets Sept. programs

The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities for September. The library will be closed Sept. 1 for the Labor Day holiday.

n Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at 11 a.m. Mondays. Beginners are welcome.

n Maker Mondays are held all day Mondays in the Children’s Room. A station will be set up with a different craft, challenge or activity each week.

n Storytime and Craft will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver.

n Needlework & Arts Group is held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Bring your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults.

n Twisted Stitchers meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Bring your own project, yarn and hooks; spend time with other crafters.

n Dance, Sing and Play! will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Sept. 11, 18 and 25. Need to get your wiggles out? Dance, sing, shake the parachute and some shaky eggs too.

n Lego Club will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. Bring your imagination, and the library will supply the Legos. It is intended for school-aged children.

n 1-2-3 Play With Me Family Place Workshops will be held at 10 a.m. on each Friday in September, just before Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Come explore toys, make new friends and talk one-on-one with a different community resource professional each week.

n Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Children ages 5 and older are welcome with their caregivers.

n Stuffed Animal Sleepover will be held Monday evening, Sept. 22. Children may drop off a stuffed animal before 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Then, the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library ABC Photo Society will take pictures of all of the stuffies’ overnight adventures. Stuffed animals may be picked up at Storytime on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 10:30 a.m. or later that day.

n The Altoona/Blair County Photo Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 8 and 22. The Photo Society gathers to discuss a variety of topics, including taking and editing pictures. Learn something new with any type of camera or smart phone. New members are welcome. Call 814-207-1479 with questions.

n The Inspirational Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11. This month’s book selection is “A Day to Pick Your Own Cotton” by Michael Phillips.

n The Women Writers Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25. This month’s book is “Bright Young Women” by Jessica Knoll.

n The Best of Times Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, to discuss “Night Watch” by Jayne Ann Phillips. All are welcome.
