Hollidaysburg library sets programs for August

The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities for August. The library will be closed Aug. 30, 31 and Sept. 1 for the Labor Day Holiday.

– Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at 11 a.m. Mondays. Beginners are welcome.

– Maker Mondays are held all day Mondays in the Children’s Room. A station will be set up with a different craft, challenge or activity each week.

– Needlework & Arts Group is held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Bring your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults.

– Storytime and Craft will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver.

– Twisted Stitchers meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Bring your own project, yarn and hooks; spend time with other crafters.

– Lego Club meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Bring your imagination, the library will supply the Legos. Intended for school-aged children.

– Tick Talk! will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. Canoe Creek Educators Heidi Mullendore and Cheyanna Walter will discuss the types of ticks in the area, where they hide and what diseases they carry.

– Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Children ages 5 and up are welcome with their caregivers.

– Altoona/Blair County Photo Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 4 and 18. The society gathers to discuss a variety of topics, including taking and editing pictures. Learn something new with any type of camera or smart phone. New members are welcome. Call 814-207-1479 with questions.

– Inspirational Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14. This month’s book selection is “Angels Watching Over Me” by Michael Phillips.

– Women Writers Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20. This month’s book is “The Unmaking of June Farrow” by Adrienne Young.

– The Adult Summer Book Club for this year will be themed “Family Ties.” It will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, to discuss “O’ Pioneers!” by Willa Cather.

– BOOKbucks from the Summer Reading Program may be redeemed while supplies last.

– StoryWalk Hollidaysburg. Join us in Downtown Hollidaysburg for this fun, family-friendly self-guided walk. Read the book “I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More” by Karen Beaumont on each storefront poster as you stroll. Pick up or download a StoryWalk map and worksheet at one of the following spots: Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, Copy-Rite Banner Zone, Blair County Regional YMCA, HollidaysburgPartnership.com or HACP Facebook. Each child receives a free book of their choosing upon completion. StoryWalk is held Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, Sept. 1.
