Ebensburg yard sale seeks participants

EBENSBURG — The annual Ebensburg community yard sale will take place on Saturday, July 26, during the town’s homecoming celebration. The map of yard sale locations is limited to the first 50 who register; anyone with an Ebensburg address may participate.

Those interested in becoming part of one of the area’s largest community yard sales should send their name, address, email, yard sale time and $5 fee to: Ebensburg Homecoming, 300 W. High St., Ebensburg, PA 15931. All registrations should be received by Friday, July 18, and checks should be made payable to: EMSP (Ebensburg Main Street Partnership).

Residents may also drop off their yard sale information and $5 fee to the Ebensburg Borough office, 300 W. High St., during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays).

The Ebensburg Library and Bishop Carroll High School will have spaces available to rent if anyone is unable to have a sale at their home. Interested vendors can stop by the library to reserve a table or contact Mrs. Freidhof at 814-472-7500, ext. 101, or Freidhof.susan@bishopcarroll.org to reserve a spot at BCCHS.

The yard sale map will be available one week prior to and on the day of the event.

Penn State Altoona calls for local artists

Penn State Altoona will host a performing arts series this summer featuring community artists.

The cabaret-style events will take place at 5 p.m. on July 13, July 27 and Aug. 3 in the Titelman Study of the Misciagna Center for Performing Arts.

Regional artists over the age of 18 may apply.

Vocalists and instrumentalists are asked to prepare about 20 minutes of repertoire. They will need to have their own accompaniment/accompanist/instrument, aside from a piano which will be provided. All genres are welcome.

Playwrights need to submit an excerpt of their script between five and 10 pages for review and are asked to read for no more than an hour at their performance. Readers/actors are not provided.

This event is free and open to the public through support of the Kjell Meling Arts for All Initiative. For further information, call 814-949-5452.

Quilt Retreat planned in Cresson

CRESSON — The Station Inn in Cresson will host a quilting retreat Friday, July 25, to Sunday, July 27, for quilters in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland areas.

Quilters should bring their own projects and machines to work on. Breakfast is included. Retreat participants arrange their own lunch and dinner.

Centre Ballroom Dance to host Zupe

Centre Ballroom Dance will host a dinner and ballroom dance from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at Lambert Hall, Bellefonte.

Zupe will provide the music.

The meal will consist of these entrees: beef brisket, honey garlic chicken or black bean burger, along with sides, dessert and adult beverages.

Centre Ballroom Dance is a nonprofit, and community members have managed to resurrect ballroom dancing in Centre County.

Drag show set for June 28 in Bedford

The New BROADway Divine Drag Show is bringing retro glitz and glamour with “Decades of Drag” on Saturday, June 28, at the Bedford Arts Cooperative.

Twelve Kings and Queens are reaching back through the decades to bring you a show you don’t want to miss! Dress in clothes from your favorite era. Doors open at 8 p.m. The drag show starts at 9 p.m. Cover is $10, and bring your dollars and dollar bills for the specialty cash bar and to show your love for the Kings and Queens.

This event is for guests 21 years old and older only. ID will be required.

Proceeds benefit the Bedford Arts Cooperative and the performers.

Off Pitt Street to present comedy

The Off Pitt Street Theater Company will present “Help Wanted,” a comedy about the search for security, true love, or at least a decent, part-time job, written by Danielle Dresden.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, July 11, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, July 12. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and may be purchased at the door, online at OffPittStreet.com or by calling/texting: 814-310-1987.

This is a BYOB event for ages 21 and older. ID is required.

Arts & Heritage Festival seeks nonprofits

Laurel Highlands Historical Village will host the Cambria County Arts & Heritage Festival on Saturday Sept. 13, and Sunday Sept. 14, at Duman Lake County Park.

Orgaizers are looking for nonprofit organizations to be a part of this event, as it is a way to not only showcase your heritage but showcase your efforts and reach the general public and explain what your organization can do for them.

This is also a continuance of Lift Johnstown and its efforts in helping nonprofit groups in the region.
