Memorial Day parade invites participants
The 2025 Memorial Day parade will be held Monday, May 26, in downtown Altoona. Lineup is at 10 a.m. at the parking lots by Stevens Mortuary, 1421 Eighth Ave. Parade step-off will be at 10:30 a.m. After the parade, a service will be held downtown at 11th Avenue and 14th Street.
All area veterans are invited to participate. All non-veteran groups are welcome as well.

Penelec Omega Club plans breakfast
All Penelec retirees are welcome to attend the next social for the Penelec Omega Club. It will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at The Dream restaurant, 1500 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg.
The cost of the breakfast will be the responsibility of the attendee. The breakfast provides an opportunity to socialize and visit with other retirees.
The guest speaker will be Pastor Ralph Hamer, director of pastoral care and congregational relations at the Allegheny Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg. He will provide a talk on “Medical Decisions When You Can’t Make Them Yourself.”

Houtzdale Lions to hold fundraiser
Tickets are on sale for the Houtzdale Lions Club’s roast beef dinner fundraiser.
It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Brisbin Street, Houtzdale. It is carry-out only, and all tickets must be purchased in advance.

Cemetery upkeep to be discussed
A brief meeting to discuss the cemetery upkeep will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Altoona.
Off Pitt Street to hold murder mystery
Off Pitt Street Productions and Hinckston Run Farm will present “Murder at the ‘We’re NOT Okay’ Corral” at
6 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Hinckston Run Farm, 1267 Waterfall Drive Johnstown. It is an original, interactive, murder mystery event.
Guests will become a part of the story, interact with the characters, hunt for clues and play games to win “special clues,” as they try to solve a murder.
Prizes will be awarded to the first three super sleuths to determine both the motive and the murderer.
Tickets are $80 per person (or two tickets for $150) and include dinner catered by Mission BBQ: pulled chicken, barbecue brisket, Maggie’s Mac-N-Cheese, baked beans with brisket, rolls, brownies and cookies, plus a complimentary “Cowboy Cocktail” (or one bottled beer).
There will be a cash bar. This event is for ages 21 and older only. Tickets are extremely limited and are available online at OffPittStreet.com or by calling 814-310-1987.
Rumble Through the Valley is June 27-28
The 2025 Rumble Through the Valley Festival will be held June 27 and 28 at Peoples Natural Gas Park in downtown Johnstown.
It will include a variety of activities, entertainment, sponsors and vendors.
Activities include two motorcycle runs, classic and antique car cruise, motorcycle parts swap meet, biker games, motorcycle wash, escape room and live music entertainment.
Entertainment includes:
Friday, June 27 — Three Of Hearts from noon to 2 p.m., Fuse from 3 to 5 p.m., Boomtown from 6 to 8 p.m. and Octane from 9 to 11 p.m.
Saturday, June 28 — Inside Out from noon to 2 p.m., Jukehouse Bombers from 3 to 5 p.m., Blood Union from 6 to 8 p.m. and Use Your Illusion (Guns N’ Roses tribute band) from 9 to 11 p.m.
SFU seeks artwork from veterans
The Connors Family Fine Arts Center at Saint Francis University, Loretto, is asking local artists who are veterans to submit artwork for an exhibit to take place from June 7 to 27.
A reception will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. June 7 at the center, 181 St. Catherine St., Loretto.
To participate, send an email to Jessica Campbell — jcampbell@francis.edu — with the artist’s name and military branch; title of work, medium, size and date of completion. Veterans can submit two works of art.
Art must be framed and ready to hang. Register and drop off on or before May 12 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Railway employees to meet Wednesday
The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 7, at Prime Sirloin Buffet, Duncansville.
NARVRE is the only chartered national organization whose sole purpose is to protect pension rights.
All retired, veteran and present railway employees (and their spouses) are invited to attend the meeting of NARVRE Unit #173, Altoona. Members and nonmembers are welcome. Come and hear the latest rail news.
