50 years ago: The Pennsylvania Nurses Association held a seminar at the Sheraton Motor Inn in cooperation with Altoona Hospital, Dr. Ira B. Kron coordinator, on the dialysis unit operation.

35 years ago: The Altoona Area School District was to put up walls in the Washington-Jefferson Elementary School, which was an open classroom school, along with Wright School. The cost, including carpet removal for asbestos, was estimated at $600,000.

10 years ago: Two years after the popular Altoona Hotel burned down, the debris was finally being hauled away to the great relief of neighbors. The fire was still being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
