The Skip Sigel Dancers of Altoona competed in the Dance Masters of Pennsylvania competition in Monroeville, with the senior Golden Nuggets group winning a first place and the junior Tappettes group winning a second place.

Altoona Police Chief John J. Reilly announced a crackdown on skateboarders on public streets and sidewalks in central city and school property, saying the department had been deluged with complaints, with some people saying they had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.

Altoona City Council introduced an ordinance to levy a $5 per capita tax in addition to a $5 tax already in place. Altoona residents also paid a $5 per capita tax to the Altoona Area School District.
