The Community Arts Center of Cambria County’s Log Art Theatre Academy will hold auditions for “Bugsy Malone JR.” on Feb. 24 and Feb. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. This production of Log Art Theatre Academy is supported by the RMHC (Ronald McDonald House Charities) of Mid-Penn Region, Inc. Through their generosity, this production will be made available free of charge to participants.

Children and youth ages 8 through 18 years are eligible to audition. Rehearsals will take place during March and April, culminating in a three-day stage production of this comedic musical.

Those auditioning only need to attend one of the two days for auditions. Tryouts will include a reading, singing and dancing audition. No preparation required; all materials will be provided for those auditioning at the auditions. Songs and short dance routines will be taught to auditionees at the auditions. Those auditioning will find out what part they have been cast as after auditions at the read through.

Bugsy Malone Jr. performances will be at 6 p.m. April 11 and April 12 and 2 p.m. April 13.

Based on the hit 1976 film, two gangs in a fictitious city populated only by children are in a rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan’s gang has gotten the upper hand since acquiring the “splurge” gun (a weapon that shoots whip cream). Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust into the limelight when he becomes the last chance Fat Sam’s gang has of surviving. All Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love, Blousey … but that just isn’t in the cards for our hero. “Bugsy Malone JR.” includes an ensemble.

The production will include learning basic theater concepts, tools and techniques to enhance characterization, character dissection and back story creation, improvisational skills, monologue and line delivery development and the use of historic and economic status to transform.
