Yesteryear
Robert “Bob” Donaldson submitted this photo of the George B. Kelley Baseball Championship Team from the 1948 recognition dinner at the Elks Club. The team from 11th Ward Altoona won the championship and went to Dayton, Ohio, to compete further. This was the first year for the George B. Kelley Federation Baseball League. Shown are (from left): front row — Bob Chesnes (1948 Pirates pitcher, guest speaker), Don Wible, Tom Schott, Gene Bates, Bill Tauber, Ken Keagy and Clarence Hoover (coach); middle row — Ray Funk, Bill Crownover, Archie Keller, Paul Koegler, Jack Sloey, Bob Donaldson and Joe Bates; back row — Tip Clouser, Pip Grove, Al Weitzel and Pete Cherry.
