50 years ago: Jan. 30, 1975
Nadine Heiss, a member of the Altoona Area School Board, sent the paperwork to Washington, D.C., to have the former Collinsville Lutheran Church and Logan Township School at 16th Street and Pleasant Valley Boulevard declared a national historic site. The land was sold at least twice, for $1 and $10.
25 years ago: Jan. 30, 2000
Officials said that the proposed Logan Towne Centre shopping complex between Frankstown Road and 17th Street could generate $370,500 in taxes for the Altoona Area School District, $198,250 for Blair County and $100,750 for Logan Township.

The Albemarle Plant in Tyrone, formerly Quality Chemical, QCI and ChemFirst Fine Chemicals, which had been located in Tyrone since 1975 and employed 172, was put up for sale by its Baton Rouge, La., owners.
