50 years ago: Jan. 28, 1975
The Blair Division of the Naval Sea Cadets at the Naval Reserve Center in Altoona named new staff officers, Lt. Cmdr. Miron L. Briggs commanding. Cadets Ronald M. McGee and Kenneth D. Shaw entered the CACHE program to enter the Navy after high school graduation with the rank of E-3.
25 years ago: Jan. 28, 2000
The Rolling Rock Motel in Duncansville was heavily damaged by fire during weather so cold, Duncansville Fire Chief Larry Daugherty directed firefighters into a warm bus every 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The Blair Drug and Alcohol Partnerships, Frank Rosenhoover board president, held its annual recognition dinner at the Calvin House in Duncansville. Carolyn Falk was presented the Youth Advocacy Award.
