‘For the Kids’ Golf Tournament raises $15,532

The 14th annual Gloria Gates Memorial Foundation Afterschool Program “For the Kids” golf tournament was held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Park Hills Golf Club in Altoona.

The tournament benefits the Gloria Gates Memorial Foundation which sponsors three after-school programs in low-income housing areas of Altoona.

The $15,532 raised at the tournament will be used to help pay for school supplies, field trips, healthy snacks and other items that are needed to provide academic enrichment and support to the enrolled children.

The golf tournament has been organized each year by Scott Rhine and Galen Grimes of Altoona. Other members of the golf tournament committee were Matt Hileman, Jess Brunner and Dan Burns.

The committee and the Foundation would like to thank all of the tournament sponsors, golfers, and volunteers for the success of this year’s tournament.

The first-place team for the tournament was NPC Inc.: Luke Sackandy, Brian Brumbaugh, Kirk Kissell and Andy Burchfield.

Corporate sponsors were Gloria Gates Care and Value Drug.

Golden Gates sponsors were Ward Trucking, UPMC, LS Fiore and Greg and Mary Drew.

Beverage cart sponsors included Teeter Group, Cardiology Associates of Altoona, Evolve Insurance, McCloskey Builders, Beauchamp’s Plumbing and Heating, First National Bank, McAbee’s Subs, and DeLeo Games Inc.

The Gloria Gates Memorial Foundation Afterschool Program was established in 1999 by Dr. Zane Gates in honor of his mother, Gloria Gates. The children enrolled in the after-school programs are encouraged to do well in school and to develop the character traits needed to work hard, resist peer pressure and achieve a bright future.

The 15th Annual Gloria Gates Memorial Foundation Afterschool Program “For the Kids” golf tournament will be held on Sat. June 7, 2025 at Sinking Valley Country Club with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
