The Alpha Beta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held a Christmas Tea Dec. 7 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bedford.

Gifts, tea, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables and cookies were provided by the Hospitality Committee. The Ways and Means Committee held a raffle of small donated items, where $488 was raised for the chapter’s conference fund.

President Tina Smith-Gilbert read “A Christmas Prayer” and gave an ornament to each member. Amy Snyder, membership chair, presented certificates recognizing members’ milestones: Yvonne Bowser and Jennifer Harclerode for five years and Beverly Brumbaugh, Candace Claar, Carol Fritz, Kristen Hall and Susan Trimolini for 25 years.

Linda McElroy thanked members for their donations of $477 to the Jubiliani School in Zimbabwe, Africa. Another donation will be collected at the March meeting.

Linda Clapper, projects committee chair, reported that 31 “We Care Bags” were donated to local school districts for students experiencing turmoil. The committee also prepared gifts for primary school students who are clients of Bedford County Children and Youth. Older students will receive gift cards. These items were picked up by Santa and the Head Elf for delivery to Children and Youth clients for Christmas.

Becky Johnen, immediate past president, distributed a form for members to sign up to volunteer and to donate food to the craft show and bake sale scheduled for Saturday, April 12, at the St. Clair Township Building. Johnen also thanked the Hospitality Committee for preparing the tea.

The St. John’s United Church of Christ Bell Choir presented the program.

The next meeting will be March 22 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in James Creek.

Starting at $2.99/week.
