Military Food Share set for Jan. 13
DUNCANSVILLE — The monthly Military Food Share distribution at the Duncansville VFW Auxiliary 8724 will be held Monday, Jan. 13, beginning at 11 a.m.
This is for all active military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County. We are currently serving veterans in need and give to individuals who qualify by the income guidelines. A military ID, DD214 or VA card and photo ID are required. Please enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane and line up on Turek Drive. Food shares are held monthly on the second Monday.
Any person interested in volunteering can enter the parking lot and speak with Donna George.
The VFW and its auxiliary wishes to thank all the volunteers and local businesses for helping to keep this program going each month.
Additional distributions are scheduled for Feb. 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9 and July 14. Please mark on your calendars.
Woodcarving club offers free classes
The Horseshoe Woodcarving Club is offering six free woodcarving classes starting Jan. 16.
Classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays in the Ward Community Room at Arts Altoona, 2212 Sixth Ave., Altoona (the first floor of church annex building).
All materials, tools and instruction/help provided to complete three projects. Class size is limited to 10.
No experience is needed, just an interest to try something new.

Allegheny Chorale to begin rehearsals
The Allegheny Chorale will begin rehearsals for its spring concert.
Rehearsals will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Tyrone Alliance Church, 2103 Adams Ave., Tyrone.
New members are invited to join Allegheny Chorale during the first two rehearsals on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4.
Any person with a love for singing is welcome to join. The chorale will be preparing to present two concerts in April. Questions can be directed to AlleghenyChorale

Groove Fitness Studio plans fundraiser
The Groove Fitness Studio, 539 E. 25th Ave., Altoona, will hold a “Groove Till You Drop 10 Hour Dance A Thon” from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.
The event will benefit The Groove Foundation, its new 501(c)(3) nonprofit benefiting local causes and individuals in need.
Participants will dance for 10 hours with different instructors and styles of dance.
There will be a basket raffle, 50/50 drawings and giveaways throughout the day.
Tickets are $20, which allows admittance in and out all day. Tickets can be purchased at Groove Fitness, online at www.groovefitnessstudio.com or at the door.
Dinner to support sick community
The Men’s Club of St. Mary and St. Michael in Hollidaysburg will host a spaghetti dinner to support parishioners experiencing medical hardship.
The dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the St. Mary Social Hall, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg.
Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, bread stick, dessert and drink. Donation is $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger. Children under 3 can eat for free. Takeouts are available.

Society to host historical talk Jan. 18
BEDFORD — The Bedford County Historical society, will be presenting “Frontier Homesteading in the 18th & 19th Century” given by Phil Brambley.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, downstairs at the Hall at Kinton’s Knob, 6441 Lincoln Hwy, Bedford. This free event is open to the public.

Brambley’s interest includes the field of genealogy. He has also studied the history of Bedford and Fulton counties. He excelled as a Civil War re-enactor for 20+ years. He is skilled with blacksmithing and turning (lathe). Through reading, research and hands-on experience, Brambley has acquired a vast knowledge of the 18th and 19th centuries.
