50 years ago: 1974

About 100 Blair County Dairy Farmers, Willis Greaser director, joined 2,500 members of the Inter-State Milk Producers Cooperative traveling to Washington to protest rising costs and ask for an increase in prices.

25 years ago: 1999

Daryl Schafer, director of the Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Association, said that his year’s drought severely impacted the state’s growth of Christmas trees. Pennsylvania was the No. 2 state in growing Christmas trees, with Oregon being No. 1. Local growers reported losses from 50 to 100%.

10 years ago: 2014

Walmart in Altoona, Debbie Serr spokeswoman, said the store would be using wristbands and targeted lines to keep shoppers orderly on Black Friday shopping day tomorrow. JCPenney, Macy’s and Sears in the Logan Valley Mall were opening Thursday.
