50 years ago: 1974

Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School art students, Barbara Martinetti and Jack Zerby teachers, painted scary Halloween scenes on the windows of the A&P Store in Hollidaysburg, where manager Lou Cover was holding a best window contest.

25 years ago: 1999

The U.S. Department of Agriculture released a list of the percentage of households by state that didn’t have enough to eat. Pennsylvania came in at 43rd with 7.1%. New Mexico was first with 15.1% and North Dakota last at 4.6%.

10 years ago: 2014

Altoona Police gave out candy to children trick or treating in the second year of a program called “Candy From A Cop” Officers pulled over their patrol cars and bikes when they saw groups of children. Sgt. Brian Freiwald was event coordinator.
